So true! I noticed the simularities too. And I remember there was a real time mtg based game (forgot the name) using almost every spell. But I prefer the old microprose game (search the internet for it) and the real table game, since the nature of the game is to think things over in a turn based environment. Anyway, many other games copied the idea: Master of Magic, Etherlords I and II are just a few examples of it .

Thanks for the info, Greentongue. I'll definitely take a look at those systems. I'm hanging onto my pre-d20 games with a deadly kung-fu grip so that I can still roleplay without feeling ill. Perhaps checking those out will help me get back into the world of pnp.

Sorry for the off-topic post, just wanted to extend my gratitude.

Thank god noone did.
How much magic have you played? If Magic was 80% luck, then the top rankings would be filled with nameless chumps that changed from season to season. However, its not, the people place and win in the tournaments are mostly people one would recognize. They're the people who consistantly win. Do they have better cards than their competition? No, considering the competition they face generally have access to the exact same cards they do, have similar costing decks, and some even have the exact same decks. Topdecking does win some games, but if 80% of the games were determined by topdecking, then there wouldn't be consistent winners.

My very first impression after going over the Mesmer's skill list was... "Holy Crap! It's blue!"

Building decks in M:TG was all about finding combos like "Spirit Shackles + Mindwrack".

i dont really think mtg and gw is verry similar, mtg is luck, skill, economy(rl) and u dont have to think so fast.
